Hackney 3’s continue to be the fun-guys of the club

On Wednesday 10th October, in the second fixture of the season, Hackney 3 played Mushrooms 2.
Mushrooms 2 are a new side in division 3, having been relegated from division 2 at the end of last year. It was expected that they would field a strong side in their quest to return to their former glory.
Not surprisingly, when the team sheets were exchanged, we were out graded on 8 of the ten boards, and by an average of 7.5 points. I won the toss and Hackney played white on the even boards. It was going to be a tough match!
We made a good start, with Jeff and Robin taking early scalps to put us 2-0 ahead. Then James lost, Peter drew, and Jonny won. We were ahead 3.5 to 1.5, with half the boards played, but the remaining games were fiercely contested.
As the clocks ran down, Mushrooms looked to pull ahead as Pedro and I both lost, but then Chris, in his last minute of time, pulled off a stunning draw. The scores were now level at 4-4 with everything depending on Salim and Emyr. It was tense to watch, with both games going into the last few minutes of clock time, but in the end both Salim and Emyr were victorious.
Hackney had won 6-4. A tremendous result, which means we have started the season with two wins out of two games played.
Well done everybody!
Thanks as well to Frank and Mark for being there on the night and supporting the team.
