Hackney CC well represented at London Chess Classic

This year’s London Chess Classic was won by GM Fabio Caruana after a play-off against GM Ian Nepomniachtchi (see photo above). GM Magnus Carlsen won the overall Grand Chess Tour title after securing a last-round win against Levon Aronian. Super GMs apart, there was plenty of action in the huge Festival Hall with our first teamers Richard Bates and Jonathan Pein playing in the Fide Open and Blitz tournaments and getting 5.5/9 and 4.5/9 respectively in a very strong field in the Open. A special mention too for Chris Levy who scored a very creditable 2.5/9 despite being heavily outgraded throughout the tournament.

Chris Gribben and Alistair Dyte played in the Under 1750 tournament with both finishing on 3/5. First team captain Bob Eames scored 3/6 in the Rapidplay Open.
